In the heart of Majorna, Gothenburg, you’ll find Robb — a beloved pizza and wine restaurant founded by Karl and Linnea Robb Kaardal. We sat down together with the owners to learn how their passion for music, food and wine led them not only to each other, but also to opening their own restaurant.

Karl and Linnea share a common interest and love for music and food, and that is where their shared history begins. The couple, who met at a music event, quickly became the designated cooks and dinner hosts amongst friends and family. Linnea and Karl explain how this was the practice that ultimately made them decide to make a professional business out of cooking.

“...we spend a lot of private time making food and having friends over, making meals and having parties, and that just grew and grew and grew until we felt like trying to do this professionally instead”, Karl says.

The inspiration behind the pizza at Robb come from the best of what they experience together out in the world. “We try to take a little something from all our favorite places and combine them into one at Robb”, Karl says. Specifically, the couple mention taking inspiration from restaurants like Bov and Lilla Napoli, which Karl tells us have heavily inspired and influenced their pizza-making journey.

We ask Linnea and Karl what their definition of a good time would be, Linnea answers that “At Robb, it’s all about the regulars. Seeing familiar faces, chatting over their favorite wines and pizza, getting to know each other by name—it feels more like a gathering of friends than a restaurant. That’s always heartwarming”.

Karl nods and says “for me food and friends is the recipe for good times, and I think that translates into why I have a good time at work because that’s what we do at Robb. We’re a group of friends that run it together and have fun making food and serving wine”.

Reflecting on what they’ve learned along the way, Karl emphasizes taking the plunge. “Follow your dreams, is the easiest thing to say from our perspective. Obviously, we are very privileged to be able to do what we do, but if you have the means to try to do what you enjoy, go for it and don’t be too scared. Life usually finds a way of working itself out”. Linnea adds that it’s been scary at times but having each other—and support from their family and friends has made it possible.
